Active cases of COVID-19 Northern Health continued to decline on Wednesday but the region was also home to two more deaths from the virus, according to numbers from the B.C. Centre for Disease Control.

The deaths raised the total since the pandemic broke out to 93 in Northern Health and were among nine reported for across the province, raising the running total on that front to 1,278.

"We offer our condolences to everyone who has lost loved ones to COVID-19," provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and health minister Adrian Dix said in a joint statement.

Active cases in Northern Health stood at 335, decline of 109 over two days.

Thirty-seven new cases were reported in the region. Hospitalizations held steady at 10 with seven of them in intensive care, down one.

Province-wide, there were 4,317 active cases, up by 12 from midday Wednesday. Fraser Health accounted for 1,923, Interior Health for 899, Vancouver Coastal 898, Vancouver Island 255 and patients from out of Canada seven.

There were 449 new cases across B.C., slightly above the seven-day rolling average of 439.1 as the trend on that front continued to flat line.

Health officials have been urging people to stay at home and avoid social gatherings this Family Day long weekend.

There are at least two pandemic-safe events for families on Monday - and the Celebration of Lights at the Central B.C. Railway and Forestry Museum and the Adventure Cruise scavenger hunt around the city.
