A former Prince George city councillor will be part of the committee organizing the B.C. Liberal Party's leadership race.

Local business owner Cameron Stolz is one of seven members of the party's leadership election organizing committee, the party announced on Thursday. Stolz will be joined by fellow northerner, Don Silversides of Prince Rupert.

Liberal interim leader Shirley Bond said it is just the start of the "exciting process" of selecting a new permanent leader for the party, following Andrew Wilkinson's resignation as leader following the provincial election last year.

"I'm hopeful a very diverse slate of candidates will run to seek the leadership of this party," Bond said.

The committee will be co-chaired by Roxanne Helme of Victoria and Colin Hansen of Vancouver. The other members are Sarah Sidhu of Port Moody and Jackie Tegart of Ashcroft.

The committee will set the timeline, rules and process for selecting a new leader. The committee members and party executive have pledged to remain neutral during the party's leadership race.
