Robberies and assault net more than five years in jail

Year in Review

A mid-September crime spree in Prince George has yielded five years and three months in prison for a Calgary man.

Raymond Douglas Pennicott, 22, was issued the term Friday in provincial court for the Sept. 14 armed robbery of two Subway restaurants and the Sept. 17 armed robbery of a gas station at Fifth and Carney and the Sept. 10 assault of a local taxi cab driver.

He received concurrent terms of five years for three counts of using a restricted or prohibited firearm in the commission of a crime, and three years for one count each of possession of a restricted or prohibited firearm with ammunition and pointing a firearm.

An additional six months was added for a count of assault of a weapon for using bear spray on the cab driver, but Pennicott also received three months credit for time already served.

Pennicott hails from Calgary but has ties to Prince George, police have said.

Pennicott's partner in the Subway robberies, Raymond Jarrod Constant Pruden-Collins, 20, of Prince George, was sentenced in November to five years for two counts of use of a restricted or prohibited firearm in the commission of a crime and a concurrent term of one year for pointing a firearm.

He was also sentenced to three years for robbery and one year for disguising his face in the Sept. 19 robbery of a Pine Centre Mall jewelry store and was given two months credit for time already served prior to sentencing.

Pruden-Collins' partner in that incident, Benjamin Dillon Ertmoed, 21, of Prince George, is scheduled to be sentenced in early January following completion of a pre-sentence report.

Five years is the minimum sentence that can be issued for using a restricted or prohibited firearm in the commission of a crime.
