A proposed cannabis growing facility near the rural community of Sinclair Mills has received approval from the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George.
Last week the district board approved a rezoning to allow cannabis production on the site, located on Upper Fraser Road about 100 kilometres east of Prince George. The applicants, Eva and Petr Gruszka, currently live on the proposed 24.2-hectare site.
"The applicants have proposed that a warehouse would be utilized for cannabis production use," district planner Tyson Baker wrote in his report to the board. "The warehouse is proposed to be 400.0 (square metres) in size with a concrete foundation."
Under the district's bylaws, cannabis production is normally limited to properties at least 259 hectares in size, with cannabis production limited to three hectares or less of the property.
Following the approval, the next step will be for the applicants to apply for a building permit for the warehouse facility, Baker wrote in his report. The building will be required to be at least 60 metres from the side and rear of the property line, and 30 metres from the front property line.
A public hearing was held regarding the issue on June 4. Five members of the public attended, and no concerns were expressed.
