It's now 30 days and counting.
That's how long the region covered by Northern Health has remained free of the novel corona virus as no new cases were reported on Wednesday.
Province wide, 18 new cases were reported, increasing the running total above the 3,000 mark, while the number of active cases held steady at 162 with 17 individuals are hospitalized, up by one from Tuesday, and three of them in intensive care, down by one.
However, there were three new deaths, all in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, pushing the running total for the province to 186 since the pandemic broke out.
In a joint statement, Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonny Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix said there have been no new health-care facility outbreaks and the outbreak at Tabor Home in Abbotsford has been declared over. Two long-term care or assisted-living facilities and one acute-care facility still have active outbreaks.
But there was a community exposure at the No. 5 Orange nightclub in the Vancouver Coastal Health region and an alert has been issued for anyone who may have been at the premises on July 1.
"If you have been at a location with a community exposure event, monitor yourself for symptoms, limit your contact with others and contact 811 to arrange for testing if any symptoms develop," Henry and Dix said.
They also urged people to continue take precautions to prevent spread of the virus.
"Fewer faces, bigger spaces is the safest approach, because we know crowded, closed spaces where people may be in close contact with each other are higher-risk environments for all of us and need to be avoided at this time.
"As we have seen in many other locations around the world, one slip can quickly cause a surge in new cases. We have also seen here in B.C. that our foundational rules for safe social interactions help to protect all of us.
"This summer, we can travel within our province, we can enjoy many activities and we can spend time with friends and family. And we can do this safely by all of us doing our part to keep our curve flat."
