No new cases of COVID-19 were reported in the Northern Health region on Monday.

Provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry reported there were 12 new cases across the province since the last update on Saturday. The total number of cases in the north remained at 62, while the provincial total rose to 2,530 since the outbreak began, Henry said.

Across B.C., a total of 2,102 people have fully recovered from COVID-19, leaving 267 active cases remaining, she said. According to data released by the B.C. Centre for Disease Control on Monday, 59 people in the north have fully recovered from COVID-19 – leaving just three active cases.

”We are into the second week of our restart. We have made significant progress, as you can see," Henry said. "Our new case numbers are tracking low."

However, since Saturday's update, four more people have died of COVID-19 in B.C., bringing the province's death toll from the pandemic to 161. All four were long-term care residents in the Lower Mainland, Henry said.

To date, there have been no deaths linked to COVID-19 in the north.

As the economy continues to reopen, Henry said public health officials will be watching to see if there is an increase in the number of new cases or new outbreaks.

"As individuals, we must continue to do our part," Henry said. "What is clear for all of us is our success so far has depended on all of our efforts. Let's keep doing what we need to do."

Across the province, 37 COVID-19 patients were hospitalized from the disease, including one in the Northern Health region, B.C. Health Minister Adrian Dix said. Of the 37 hospitalized, seven were in intensive care, including the one patient in the Northern Health region.

"I want to say 'thank you' to all people in British Columbia," Dix said. "Our first weekend of renewed social contacts went well. Every day we remain 100 per cent committed to preventing the spread of this virus... we've done our jobs.”
