A new transfer station will be ready to accept garbage and recyclables starting next Monday.

Built at a cost of $2.3 million, it will replace the community's landfill.

Bins will be in place for mixed paper and cartons and containers as well as for corrugated cardboard recycling.

There will also be designated places to drop off used oil, old propane tanks, antifreeze, household appliances, automotive batteries and yard and garden waste.

A swap shed will also be available on site and the scale and scale house have been replaced.

Four people will work at the site - one full time and three part time.

"With the opening of this facility, we are closer to reaching our objectives to increase recycling opportunities, and minimize waste being sent to our landfills," said Fraser-Fort George Regional District Environment and Parks Standing Committee Vice Chair Lara Beckett.

Two-thirds of the $2.3 million comes from the federal and provincial governments the New Building Canada-Small Communities Fund. FFGRD covered the remaining third.
