One of the federal ministers most connected to this region's economy is coming for a personal visit to Prince George.

Amarjeet Sohi, federal Minister of Natural Resources, will be the special guest of the Prince George Chamber of Commerce at a public luncheon on Monday.

"The newly appointed Minister of Natural Resources will be in Prince George to discuss the file, pipelines, LNG, softwood lumber and bringing our resource products to market," said Chamber CEO Todd Corrigall.

"In a question-and-answer format, the minister will answer questions pertaining to a variety of projects, followed by questions from attendees."

This is not the typical format used in past Chamber keynote speaker events. Corrigall said this particular minister's portfolio "is right in our wheelhouse.

This region is the engine of the B.C. economy, and in a sense also a big role player in the Canadian economy with all our natural resource industries and all our transportation routes," so stakeholders are getting the chance to directly address the issues of greatest importance.

Corrigall is crafting a set of questions he will ask on behalf of the broader Chamber membership, and after some of those main issues are discussed, those in attendance can ask their own questions.

"The feds purchased a pipeline - we can ask about how that's expected to pay off. Native communities - we can ask about the connections between reconciliation and natural resources. The dispute between Saudi Arabia and Canada - what's that about? Trumps tariffs on steel and aluminum - what are the local impacts? We've got a minister in the room who is closely related to all these issues that are in the minds of local businesses," Corrigall said.

Chamber members get a discount on tickets to the luncheon. The event happens from 12-1:30 p.m. on Monday at the Sandman Signature.
