A Prince George cannabis entrepreneur has developed, and will be teaching, an online training course for cannabis retail workers.

Christopher Simpson of Shire Green Cannabis developed Okanagan College's Recreational Cannabis Retail Sales course, which is being offered online by the Kelowna college's continuing education and corporate training department.

"The course is designed from the point of view of a manager of a licensed cannabis retail store," Simpson said in a press release issued by the college. "The training at Okanagan College is intended to provide students with the skills and knowledge that will help them stand out and succeed within cannabis retail sales."

Simpson said he's received a substantial number of resumes as he prepares to open Shire Green Cannabis, located on Fifth Avenue, but verifying people's experience with cannabis prior to legalization can be difficult.

"Legal retail cannabis has been slow to roll out in B.C., but it is gaining momentum," he said. "Because the industry is privately-funded, it's important that companies get things right the first time. That translates to sky-rocketing opportunities for skilled workers."

The online course begins Feb. 17. For more information, go online to okanagan.bc.ca/cannabistraining.
