On Friday, city crews were preparing one of the sites where work is expected to start on Monday to replace fire hydrants along First Avenue.

Businesses and drivers in the area of First Avenue and Queensway should expect traffic delays and temporary water service disruptions over the next week and a half.

City crews will be conducting maintenance on the water system and replacing fire hydrants in the area, starting on Monday. Work is expected to run from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. from Monday to May 5.

The project is expected to cause traffic delays along First Avenue between Queensway and Lower Patricia Boulevard, according to information released by the city. Businesses in the area may experience temporary water service disruptions, particularly between Monday and Wednesday next week.

The excavated areas will be repaved at the end of the project, the city said. The city is asking the public to follow all instructions from traffic control workers and signs in the area during the construction.
