A man with a criminal history in Prince George was sentenced Friday to a further 81 days in jail and one year probation after he was found behind the wheel of stolen pickup truck.

Justin Timothy Bjorklund, 27, was issued the term in Kamloops provincial court, 25 days after he rolled the vehicle off the Trans Canada Highway near Lytton.

Police in the community were alerted that a pickup had been stolen in Boston Bar and was headed in their direction. It was soon spotted heading at a high speed along the highway and then going off the road.

Bjorklund was extricated, arrested and taken by air ambulance to hospital in Kamloops.

Bjorklund was sentenced on three counts: possessing stolen property under $5,000, unlawfully dealing with identity documents and breaching probation.

Bjorklund has an extensive criminal record for offences committed in the Lower Mainland as well as in this city. In December 2019, he was sentenced in Prince George provincial court to 60 days in jail for possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
