City council supported three cultural organizations' request for grant funding from the Northern Development Initiative Trust.

Two Rivers Gallery, The Prince George Folkfest Society and CFUR Radio Society are all requesting up to $2,500 for their individual events.

Two Rivers Gallery said the funding will help make KidzArt Dayz happen. The gallery's "signature event" is planned for July 7-8, 2017.

It'll be the 27th time the kid's event comes to the city, which Two Rivers said in its submission attracts more than 10,000 people.

In the beginning, it drew a fraction of that number, when it was a small fair on the front lawn of the gallery. Then only about 100 people gathered for sack races and easel painting, the gallery's request said.

Now, it's held at the new gallery as well as the Canada Games Plaza with 25 activities.

"We know of no event like it in the region and of no other art gallery in the country that organizes a similar festival," wrote managing director Carolyn Holmes in the submission.

The Folkfest Society will ask that its funds go to support Coldsnap 2017. The nine-day winter musica festival is coming or Prince George from Feb. 3 to 11.

Now in its tenth year, the festival brings both professional artists and musicians who are outside the mainstream.

"We believe in using music and musicians to bring the community together and to promote and celebrate our shared human need for arts, culture and communication," the society said.

CFUR Radio Society is also planning a musical event, called The Big Thaw. Described as an "expos of regional talent" the March 25 event will also serve as a fundraiser for the society's "ever growing ambitions of exposing and encouraging Northern B.C. arts."

All requests will be made through NDIT"s Fabulous Festivals and Events grants.
