The city is backing a bid from Alder Hills golf course to desegregate those who want to enjoy an adult beverage after a round on the green.

On Monday night, city council approved a liquor licence application that increases the club house's occupancy from 20 people to 110. Although that sounds like a lot on paper, what the application does is licence the existing seats throughout the venue and on the outdoor patio that are currently used for food service only.

"The proposal to increase occupancy is not expected to have a significant impact on the area or existing social and recreational uses nearby, as the clubhouse continues to be a secondary use to the golf course use," said a staff report on the application, regarding the Blackburn Community Centre and Blackburn elementary school across the street from the course.
