City council approved changes on Monday that will see the city better represented at the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George boardroom, according to two councillors.

Council approved changes to how alternate directors are appointed to fill in for the city's four regular representatives on the board. Currently Mayor Lyn Hall and councillors Murry Krause, Terri McConnachie and Kyle Sampson sit on the district board.

Previously the city had one primary alternate director – currently Coun. Frank Everitt – to fill in to represent the city if any one of the members was unable to attend a district board meeting. In addition, each director had one designated alternate from city council who could fill in for them.

If Everitt was already attending on behalf of one councillor, or unable to attend, and their alternate was unable to attend the city's seat on the board would be unfilled for that meeting.

On Monday, council approved changes that would allow each of the four secondary alternates to fill in for any of the four city directors on the board.

"It's really important that we have representation at the regional district," Coun. Cori Ramsay said. "Now we can ensure there are no empty seats at the regional district."

Sampson said it's important for the city to be involved in the business of the regional district.

"It's important to be represented at that table," he said. "(This) is going to keep the consistency with councillor Everitt to be our primary alternate."
