Cougars' Gauthier named WHL goalie of the week

A weekend split against the division-leading Kamloops Blazers has earned Prince George Cougars' goalie Taylor Gauthier Western Hockey League goaltender of the week honours.

A weekend split against the division-leading Kamloops Blazers has earned Prince George Cougars' goalie Taylor Gauthier Western Hockey League goaltender of the week honours.

With a 37-save performance, Gauthier was instrumental in the Cougars' 3-1 win over the Blazers on Saturday night.

Despite a 3-0 loss on Friday night, he also kept the Cougars in the contest with 40 saves.

In 35 games this season, the 6-foot-2, 190-pound product of Calgary, Alta. has posted a 9-19-3-4 record, 2.87 goals against average, a 0.917 save percentage, and one shutout.

On the recent midterm rankings by NHL Central Scouting, Gauthier was ranked 27th among North American goaltenders.

The Cougars will continue their six-game home stand when they welcome the Tri-City Americans to the CN Centre this Friday and Saturday, 7 p.m. starts both nights.
