The B.C. Wildfire Service will be conducting the first phase a prescribed burn at the Prince George Tree Improvement Centre on Tuesday.

Crews plan to burn eight of the 18 hectares slated for burning on Tuesday, according to information released by the B.C. Wildfire Service. Smoke may be visible from College Heights and surrounding areas.

Burning at the site, located about 10 kilometres south of the city, will continue until May 7.

The goal of the burn is to improve the planting area for silviculture objectives in at the site, and reduce the risk of wildfire by reducing the accumulation of surface fuels.

B.C. Wildfire Service staff will be on site to control and monitor the fire, and burns will be conducted only when weather and site conditions are suitable.
