On Monday Coastal GasLink donated $100,000 to the United Way of Northern B.C.'s COVID-19 Relief Fund.

The United Way is using the relief fund to support vulnerable people in northern B.C. communities like seniors, the homeless, people with mental health issues or addictions, and people needing food support during the COVID-19 pandemic.

"The funds raised through COVID-19 Relief Fund will go directly to fulfilling the increasing needs of social service agencies and the clients they serve, with 100 per cent of the donations going back to where they are needed most," local United Way executive director Trista Spencer said in a press release. "This incredibly generous donation will help us immensely in getting the much-needed support out as quickly as possible and speaks to their commitment to the areas they live and work in. It is partnerships like this that will bolster our efforts in coming together to make a very big difference while we get through this challenging time in our society."

The controversial 670-kilometre, $6.6 billion Coastal GasLink natural gas pipeline is currently under construction. The project is expected to connect gas producers in northeastern B.C. with the LNG Canada natural gas export terminal under construction in Kitimat.

“We want to do our part to support our neighbours, colleagues, and friends in the communities we live and work in across northern B.C.,” said Coastal GasLink spokesperson Kiel Giddens in a press release.
