Crews with the City of Prince George are wrapping up operations at two downtown water mains that burst yesterday near 6th Avenue's intersections with Winnipeg Street and Victoria Street.
Following excavations this morning at the sites, crews found that the 15 centimetre cast-iron pipes at both locations had fractured. Both mains were installed in 1956.
Following repair operations, water service was fully restored at the 6th and Winnipeg location at about 1:30 p.m. Service at 6th Avenue and Victoria Street was turned back on the following hour.
City crews remain on-site backfilling the excavations. The sections of 6th Avenue that had been closed to accomodate the operations will be reopened by the end of the day.
Last night, crews with the City of Prince George worked into the night to restore water service to more than 300 residences in the Southridge neighbourhood after a water main broke on Tuesday morning between St. Anne and St. Lawrence.
Water service was restored for all residences and the excavation area was backfilled by 11 p.m.
The sites of all three operations will be repaved in the spring once the snow and ice have melted.
"The City of Prince George would once again like to thank residents and motorists for their patience and understanding as crews have carried out these important operations," officials said.
