The Canadian Red Cross has a further $10 million to put towards helping wildfire victims recover thanks to the provincial government.

The new funding, announced this week, will go towards repair and reconstruction related to uninsured damages caused by this past summer's wildfires. It's in addition to $3.1 million raised through public and province-matched donations to the Red Cross.

Refrigerator and freezer disposal and replacement, alternative heating source supplies, such as firewood, other operational costs such as labour, travel expenses and project equipment and health and wellness supports also qualify.

Recipients must be registered with the Red Cross who will determine who to help on a case-by-case basis with priority given to those most vulnerable. And the help cannot duplicate assistance provided through insurance, government or other agency programs.

"We will work as quickly as possible and will reach out directly to individuals and families already registered with the Red Cross in the weeks ahead," said Kimberley Nemrava, Canadian Red Cross vice-president for British Columbia and Yukon.
