The Russell Hollingsworth-designed West Vancouver home of Dollar Giant co-founder Joe Calvano has been listed for $16,998,000.

The home is located on the coastline-hugging Bellevue Avenue in the exclusive Altamont neighbourhood, close to chi-chi Dundarave Village. It has more than 4,000 square feet of luxurious interior living space, including four bedrooms, all with ensuite bathrooms.

There’s an open-concept, split-level great room with spectacular water views that includes a living room, dining room, family room and custom Snaidero kitchen, plus there’s a media room and a glass-walled wine room. Upstairs, the master bedroom has a huge dressing room and ensuite bathroom, plus walk-out deck.

The home has characteristics of its archictect’s West Coast Modern design signature, such as a water feature, glass entrance doors, exposed interior stone cladding in several rooms, frameless corner windows and floor-to-ceiling window walls. It also has a Lutron smart-home system with sound and power blinds throughout the home.

Records show the home’s owner is Joe Calvano, who co-founded dollar store chain Dollar Giant at the age of 47 in the early 2000s, and sold it to Dollar Tree Inc. in 2010 for $62 million, according to Business in Vancouver’s profile. Calvano and his two partners paid off $10 million in debt and split the remaining $52 million three ways.

The West Vancouver property was assessed in July 2018 at $10,824,000, down from the previous year’s $12,785,000. Records show that the home was purchased in 2016 after its construction for $13 million. The previous 1975-built house on the property was sold for $5.9 million in 2006. Property taxes on the home in 2018 were $29,705.
