Beaudry finishes 11th, top Canadian in IBU Cup biathlon

Biathlete Sarah Beaudry of Prince George is in Kontiolahti, Finland this week preparing for the first race of the BMW IBU World Cup tour on Saturday. Beaudry is entered in the women's 15 km individual race.
Sarah Beaudry of Prince George finished 11th out of 95 starters in the IBU Cup women's 7.5 kilometre sprint race Saturday in Ridnaun, Italy.
The 24-year-old Caledonia Nordic Ski Club member had just one miss her two shooting bouts and completed the course 1:10.3 behind gold medalist Anastasiia Morozova of Russia, who clocked 23:20.9. Silver medalist Ingela Anderson of Sweden was 6.8 seconds behind Morozova, while bronze medalist Nadiia Bielina of Ukraine was 10.1 seconds behind.
In other Canadian results, Emma Lunder of Vernon was 30th and Emily Dickson of Burns Lake was 57th. Beaudry, Lunder and Dickson all qualified for the 10 km pursuit on Sunday. 
In the men's sprint, Jules Burnotte of Sherbrooke, Que., placed 11th, Aidan Millar of Canmore was 35th, Adam Runnalls of Calgary was 49th and Carsen Campbell of Bedeque, P.E.I., ended up 63rd. 
Johannes Dale of Norway set the pace, winning gold in 25:53.4, followed by silver medalist Anton Babikov of Russia (+2.4) and bronze medalist Sivert Gottorm Bakken of Norway (+23.4).
The race drew 108 starters. The top 60 advance to Sunday's 12.5 km pursuit.
Meanwhile, at the BMW World Cup biathlon in Hochfilzen, Austria, Rosanna Crawford of Canmore Alta., finished 44th as the top Canadian in the women's 10 km pursuit. Crawford started 49th and ended up 3:24.8 behind race winner Kaisa Makarainen of Finland, who completed the course in 30:53.1.
Paulina Fialkova of Slovakia was a close second, 1.5 seconds behind Makarainen. Dorothea Wierer of Italy was third, 2.8 seconds behind.
In the 12.5 km men's pursuit, Scott Gow of Canmore finished 51st, matching his start position. Gow was 4:36.2 behind gold medalist Martin Fourcade of France, who won in 32:22.3. Arnd Peiffer of Germany took silver, 13.7 behind Fourcade, and Vetle Sjastaad Chistiansen of Norway claimed bronze (+16.1).
Megan Tandy, a Caledonia Nordic Ski Club member from Prince George, will start first in the women's 4X6km relay Sunday. The Canadian team also includes Megan Bankes of Calgary, Nadia Moser of Whitehorse, Yukon, and Crawford, who will ski the anchor leg.
In the men's 4X7.5 km relay on Sunday, Gow, Burnotte, Brendan Green of Hay River, N.W.T., and Nathan Smith of Calgary will represent Canada.
