Northern Capitals sweep round robin at Mac’s; Cariboo Cougars into playoffs

The Northern Capitals completed their sweep of the round robin at the Mac's Triple-A Midget Hockey Tournament on Wednesday. The Prince George-based Capitals defeated the Vancouver Island Seals 2-1 to go undefeated in four games.

Myah Bowal scored both of the Capitals goals, with assists in the second and third period by Caily Mellott and Sage Desjardins.

Brittney Savard was the sole Seal to beat the Prince George team's goalie, Tamara William, with a goal late in the first period. William stopped 11 of 12 shots she faced.

The schedule of matchups for the semifinals were not available Wednesday, but the Capitals will advance to playoffs which begin Thursday.

Cariboo Cougars stay hot

In the male division, the Cariboo Cougars buried the Ontario Avalanche 5-1 in their final game of round robin play on Wednesday.

Chase Dubois had two goals for the Cats, and Riley Coish, Trey Thomas and Josh Maser each picked up one goal.

Cougars goalie Aaron Jakubowski stopped 11 of 12 shots, compared to 30 saves on 35 shots by Avalanche goalies Cody Murch and Christian Kazoleas.

The Cats had three wins in four games, putting them second in their pool behind the undefeated Lloydminster Bandit Pipeline Bobcats.

Quarterfinals in the male division begin Thursday, however a schedule of the match-ups was not available as of press time.
