Knezevic wins first game at Scotties

Team B.C. has won its first game at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts. The squad, skipped by Patti Knezevic of the Prince George Golf and Curling Club, defeated PEI 7-4 in Monday morning's Draw 6 at the national curling championship in Moose Jaw.

Team B.C. has won its first game at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts.

The squad, skipped by Patti Knezevic of the Prince George Golf and Curling Club, defeated PEI 7-4 in Monday morning's Draw 6 at the national curling championship in Moose Jaw.

Knezevic is backed by third Kristen Fewster, second Jen Rusnell and lead Rhonda Camozzi.

PEI's rink is skipped by Suzanne Birt and her team from the Charlottetown Curling Complex that includes third Shelley Bradley, second Michelle McQuaid and lead Susan McInnis.

After the two teams traded singles with hammer in the first five ends, including a blank by B.C. in the fourth end, PEI scored its first deuce in the sixth end.

Knezevic responded with a deuce of her own in the eighth to take a narrow 5-4 lead and stole two more in the ninth.

Handshakes ensued in the 10th and final end.

B.C. improved to 1-3, while PEI is now 2-2.

So far after six draws, Manitoba led by Jennifer Jones sits atop the standings at 4-0, followed by Alberta and Team Canada at 3-0. Four rinks - Newfoundland and Labrador, PEI, Ontario and Northern Ontario are an even 2-2.

Team B.C. battles Rachel Homan's Team Canada crew today in Draw 7 at noon, PST.
