Ty Pochipinski scored an unassisted power-play goal 10:54 into the second period to give the Cowichan Valley Capitals the lead and Justin Perron added to the count in the third period to help the Capitals defeat the Prince George Spruce Kings 4-2 Saturday in Duncan.
The Spruce Kings overcame a 2-0 deficit to tie the game in the second period. Tyler Anderson, on a first-period power play, and Ethan de Jong, at even strength 8:44 into the second period, brought the Kings back on even terms, after Jared Domin and George Sennott had scored for Cowichan Valley.
The Capitals (19-14-2-2) remained third in the B.C. Hockey League's Island Division, while the Spruce Kings (16-13-2-2) dropped down to fourth in the Mainland Division, one point behind the Langey Rivermen (16-1-4-3-2), who won 5-4 Saturday in Merritt. The Kings have played two fewer games than Langley.
Adam Marcoux made 29 saves as the Spruce Kings outshot the Capitals 31-22. Tavin Grant was tagged with the loss in the Prince George nets. Both teams finished 1-for-3 on the power play.
The Spruce Kings will be in Victoria this afternoon to face the Grizzlies (22-6-3-4, first in the Island Division).
The Kings started their three-game trip Friday in Coquitlam with an 8-3 win over the Express.
Following a week-long Christmas break, the Spruce Kings return to Prince George to take on Langley in a two-game set, Dec. 29 and 30 at Rolling Mix Concrete Arena.
