Team Alberta was swift on the slopes at Purden Mountain on Tuesday.
In men's giant slalom, Alberta skiers nabbed all three podium positions. Liam Wallace won the gold medal with a two-run combined time of two minutes 4.63 seconds. The silver medal went to Adrien Grabinski (2:07.98), while Cody Monod claimed the bronze with a clocking of 2:08.11. Fourth-place Asher Alexander Jordan of B.C. just missed the medal podium with a combined time of 2:08.16.
In the para male giant slalom competition, the medalists were: Alexis Bambi Guimond of Quebec (gold, combined time of 2:13.54); Mark Taylor Robertson of B.C. (silver, 2:41.14); and James Binsfeld of Ontario (2:42.72).
At Tabor Mountain, moguls skiing took the spotlight on Tuesday. In the men's competition, Alexandre Lavoie of Quebec picked up 79.190 points in his gold-medal run. He was followed by Alberta skiers Davis Clement (75.640) and Julian Rigel Kapronczai (72.970).
In the women's moguls final, Valerie Gilbert of Quebec won gold with a point total of 73.200. Alberta's Searik Markle took silver (69.210) and Catherine Brunelle of Quebec (67.270) was awarded the bronze.
Meanwhile, in Tuesday ringette action at the Coliseum, Team B.C. lost both its games, 7-6 to Saskatchewan and 11-3 to Alberta to finish pool play with a 1-3 record. B.C. features Prince George player Sydney Irving and Quesnel residents Colleen Moorhouse, Jessica MacDonald and Hannah Young. In other Tuesday results, Nova Scotia defeated Prince Edward Island 6-3, but P.E.I. bounced back with a 9-8 decision against Saskatchewan.
The tournament continues with quarterfinals today.
In women's hockey, being played at Kin 2 and CN Centre, Manitoba skated to a 9-0 Tuesday win against Newfoundland and Labrador, while New Brunswick got past P.E.I. 2-1. Both those contests were qualification games.
Quarterfinals and placement games will be held today. In the quarters, B.C. (1-2) will take on Saskatchewan (1-2) at 4 p.m. at Kin 2. Other quarterfinal match-ups will see Quebec face New Brunswick (4 p.m., CN Centre), Ontario face off against Nova Scotia (7:30 p.m., CN Centre) and Alberta play Manitoba (7:30 p.m., Kin 2).
In target shooting, taking place at the College of New Caledonia, the air pistol team finals were held on Tuesday. In the men's competition, Alberta, Saskatchewan and B.C. won gold, silver and bronze respectively. In the women's category, Alberta was also golden, followed by Newfoundland and Labrador and Saskatchewan.
In Tuesday's wheelchair basketball action at Duchess Park secondary school, Pool A games saw Alberta beat New Brunswick 70-35 and Quebec down Nova Scotia 77-23. In Pool B, Saskatchewan was dominant in a 62-6 win against Manitoba and Prince Edward Island outlasted Ontario 65-57. In the late game, B.C. took on Saskatchewan and won/lost xx-xx. Prince George residents Avril Harris and Joel Ewert are Team B.C. members. Pool play continues today. B.C. will face Ontario at 5 p.m.
