ELVIRA ART
Tri-City artist Elvira Monteforte is showing her new photographic series at Braid St. Studios and Gallery (701-2071 Kingsway Ave., Port Coquitlam) today and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Titled Immersed in Reflections, the display "will speak to locals who frequent walking paths and trails throughout the Tri-Cities." The exhibition is up until Sept. 30, but by appointment only.

SEARCH AND RESCUE
You can meet the Tri-Cities’ heroes and check out their fleet of search and rescue vehicles at an open house at Town Centre Park (1299 Pinetree Way, Coquitlam). The Coquitlam SAR team, which is marking its 50th year under its first female president, Helena Michelis, will be near Lafarge Lake from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The public can also learn about safety tips while hiking in the region, as well as watch the live demonstrations.

SHRED IT
Get your unwanted, confidential documents shred safely with the Friends of the Coquitlam Public Library, which has a shred-a-thon at the Poirier branch (575 Poirier St., Coquitlam) from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Plastics, photographs and negatives are not accepted. The cost is by donation with proceeds supporting the library.

HONOURING VETS
A ceremony will be held at the Port Moody Legion (2529 Clarke St.) to honour local veterans who served in the Balkan conflict from 1992–2010 and in Afghanistan from 2001–2014. The plaque dedication at the cenotaph takes place at 11 a.m. and a colour party will be on hand.

HISTORY LESSONS
Families and visitors can check out the annual Ioco Ghost Town Day festival, running from noon to 4 p.m. at Ioco Road and 1st Avenue in Port Moody. It includes music, entertainment, food trucks, vendors and a self-guided walking tour through the historical townsite that was once operated by the Imperial Oil Co. (shortened to Ioco for the residential village).

ELECTION SEASON
Coquitlam voters can meet candidates running in the civic election, which takes place on Oct. 15. The gathering at the City Centre branch of the Coquitlam Public Library (1169 Pinetree Way, Coquitlam) is from 1 to 3 p.m. The event is informal; campaign materials will be distributed and light refreshments will be served.

SEASON LAUNCH
The Evergreen Cultural Centre (1205 Pinetree Way, Coquitlam) starts its new season with a celebration of the arts. The party begins in the art gallery to open the latest exhibit, from 5 to 7 p.m.; speeches will be held at 5:45 p.m. Then head over to the Studio Theatre to see and hear the 19-piece big band, the Bruce James Orchestra. JUMP! IN POMO
Pianist and vocalist Diane Lines brings her show Jump!, co-created with Voni Grinder and Tony Chamberlist, to the Inlet Theatre (inside Port Moody City Hall, 100 Newport Dr.) to launch the inaugural Inlet Theatre Music Series season. The performance at 7:30 p.m. is a celebration of the music following the big bands but before rock ’n roll hit the scene. Tickets are $30.
