Vail Resorts is planning to replace Whistler Blackcomb's Creekside Gondola and Big Red Express chair with new higher-capacity lifts, the company announced last year.

Mark your calendar: retired gondola cabins and chairs from Whistler Mountain’s Creekside zone are set to go on sale Friday, May 6 at 9 a.m.

Cabins from the 26-year-old Creekside Gondola and chairs from the 27-year-old Red Chair Express will be sold via the Whistler Blackcomb Foundation’s (WBF) website on a first-come, first-served basis, with chairs going for $500 and cabins for $900.

Sales from the chairs and cabins will raise funds for both the WBF and Vail Resorts’ Epic Promise Foundation.

“We are so grateful to Whistler Blackcomb and Vail for making the decision to donate the old cabins and gondolas for charity,” said WBF executive director Mei Madden in a release.

“In a time when fundraising has been more challenging than ever before, we are so appreciative of this opportunity, and we are excited to see what new life is brought to these lifts. It’s wonderful for people both inside and outside of the community to own a little piece of Whistler history. Some people will look to transform and refurbish their purchase entirely, while some will leave it as is, to commemorate their 20+ years of being transported up Creekside.”

It’s not the first time Whistler’s retired gondolas and chairlifts have gone up for sale.

In 2015, more than 140 retired Whistler Gondolas were sold, and in 2018, the old Wizard, Solar Coaster and Catskinner chairs were sold to raise funds for the WBF.

Vail Resorts announced the upgrades for Creekside in September 2021.
