The Vancouver Police Department is looking to the public for information on a recent assault that took the life of a 60-year-old man in a Vancouver park yesterday afternoon.

Officers responded to reports of an assault in progress at Grandview Park on August 5 at approximately 1:30 p.m. Vancouver resident Gilles Hebert, 60, was allegedly assaulted by another person, rendering him unconscious. Hebert was taken to hospital where he later died from his injuries.

“Investigators believe a number of people may have been walking or driving by at the time this happened and may have not realized the severity of the assault,” says Constable Tania Visintin, VPD. “We need anyone with information to come forward.”

A 39-year-old man has been arrested and the investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information is asked to call VPD’s Homicide Unit at 604-717-2500 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-tips.
