Local police will be keeping an eye on an anti-vaccine-mandate protest planned outside the Global News offices in Burnaby this month.
According to a poster circulating on social media, demonstrators with the Freedom Convoy movement plan to gather at the Colossus Cineplex Cinemas in Langley and converge outside the Global News offices at 7850 Enterprise Street just off Lougheed Highway at noon.
“Burnaby RCMP is aware of a planned protest on February 19. Burnaby RCMP is monitoring the situation and will respond as necessary,” the detachment said in an emailed statement.
This isn’t the first protest at the Global offices.
About 250 anti-vaccine-mandate demonstrators with Stand United BC were there on Jan. 8 as part of an ongoing series of protests targeting news organization.
Posters on the Stand United BC website declare “the Media is the Virus,” and James Davison, an administrator of the Stand United Facebook page, told the crowd gathered at the Global offices in January that mainstream media was being used to “demonize” unvaccinated people and that COVID-19 was being used to take away people’s liberties, according to a Georgia Straight article.
“If it wasn’t for the media, this would have never affected any of us," Davison is quoted as saying.
The NOW emailed Stand United BC for comment but didn't hear back.
