Burnaby RCMP's gang enforcement team has been operational since the third week of January.

Multiple charges are pending against a 26-year-old man who allegedly ran his car head-on into a police vehicle and then took off on foot after the Burnaby RCMP's anti-gang squad tried to pull him over.

At about 9:45 p.m. Sunday, members of the gang enforcement team attempted to stop the suspect's vehicle for a traffic violation, according to police.

The registered owner of the car has a history of dealing drugs, police said.

The suspect tried to flee and rammed the police vehicle head-on, rendering both vehicles inoperable, according to police.

The man then ran into a residence in the area, but officers entered the building and arrested him with the help of a police dog.

The suspect sustained minor injuries from the dog bite, according to police.

There were no major injuries as a result of the head-on collision, police said.

Earlier, at about 5:23 p.m., police had been called to Manor Street and Boundary Road for a reported hit-and-run involving the same suspect vehicle, according to Burnaby RCMP.

The suspect now faces charges of drug trafficking, assault of a police officer with a weapon and flight from police.
