Play Grounds Cafe announced in February they will be shutting the doors on April 1 at the Quinn Street location due to the sale of the building they are located in.

While one location is closing, the cafe will continue to operate at the Prestige Hotel Lobby location as well as their catering service.

As part of the announcement, the company said they would let customers know what would happen with memberships and it was announced earlier today (March 5).

In a Facebook post, the cafe says memberships were a primary concern but sadly they are not able to refund memberships to membership holders.

Memberships will be transferred to Two Rivers Gallery and the Prestige Treasure Hotel.

Memberships at the Two Rivers Gallery include:

  • Ten per cent discount every day at the Shop at the Gallery
  • Ten per cent discount on all Art Classes and Workshops
  • Free Sunday Open Studios
  • Two Free Guest Passes
  • Invitations to Opening Receptions
  • Personalized Membership Card
  • Voting Privileges at our Annual General Meeting

The hotel will offer members free entrance to their pool and waterslides Mondays to Fridays, and offer 10 per cent off birthday party packages. You will also still get a 10 per cent discount at the bistro.

Memberships will transfer from Play Grounds to these two locations as of April 1, 2019 and remain valid until your memberships original expiry date.

"We are so grateful to both the Gallery and the Prestige for stepping up to help us and our loyal customers during such a difficult transition," the cafe says in the post.

For those with remaining play space punch cards, the cafe says they will happily convert remaining balances into gift cards which can be redeemable at the bistro, for catering services and towards retail purchases.

Gift cards will be issued from March 24 to March 30 after 2 p.m. to avoid lineups during busy periods.

"We hope these new options will be of value to you and would be happy to respond to any further concerns at [email protected]," the company says. "Thank you for your continued support through this unfortunate predicament. We hope to see you during this last month of operation at our Quinn street location. We do not yet know what the future holds for our play cafe business model but are working hard to continue serving the community via our Bistro location and catering service."
