Lheidli T’enneh election on April 11

The Prince George-area First Nation elects chiefs and councillors for two-year terms.

Members of the Lheidli T'enneh First Nation go to the polls on April 11 to elect a new chief and council.

Members of the Lheidli T’enneh First Nation will be going to the polls on April 11 to elect a new chief and council for a two-year term.

In person-voting in the election will take place at the First Nation’s band office, located at 1041 Whenun Rd., from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on April 11, Lheidli T’enneh electoral officer Marcus Hadley said in a video address to Lheidli T’enneh voters.

Hadley said that voter information packages were sent on March 7 to all off-reserve members of the First Nation for whom the First Nation has an address for. Any eligible Lheidli T’enneh voter who has not received that information package should phone or text Hadley at 250-884-4703, or email at marcus.hadley@gmail.com. The information package includes information on how to vote by mail-in ballot.

Incumbent Chief Dolleen Logan is seeking reelection, challenged by former chiefs Clay Poutney, Dominic Frederick and Peter Quaw. Frederick, a sitting member of council, has also put his name forward to run for council.

Running for the five spots on council are: Keith Billy, Jamie Bird, Helen Buza (incumbent), Bibiane Francis, Dominic Frederick (incumbent), Robert Gagnon, Crystal Gibbs (incumbent), Wendy Jael, Clarence John, Corinna Joseph, Kalan Keller, Kyle McIntosh, Dawn Murphy, Jennifer Pighin, Joshua Seymour (incumbent), Tamara Seymour, Tyler Seymour, Janice Shannon, Kennora Stewart, John-Micheal West and Shirley Wiltermuth.

Jamie Bird, Melody Buzas, Elissa Gagnon, Bryan Seymour and Phylis Seymour have put their names forward to sit on the Lheidli T’enneh lands authority.
