Delta Police are on the scene late Thursday afternoon investigating a fatal cycling incident near the Tsawwassen Mills mall.

Details are limited at this point, but DPD media relations officer A/Sgt. Leisa Schaefer confirmed with the Optimist that police are investigating a fatality.

“Unfortunately, yes it was a fatality. The driver remained on scene and there were several witnesses. This looks like a tragic accident,” said Schaefer.

Schaefer said a 58-year-old Delta resident has been identified as the person killed.

The incident occurred in the area of Salish Sea Way and Nulelum, say DPD.

Motorists are asked to try and avoid the area if possible as roads around the investigation scene will be closed for some time.

The Optimist will continue to monitor the situation and will provide more details if Delta Police releases them.
