City building permit numbers on record pace this year

Value of permits issued by the city in January and February more than double the same months last year

The City of Prince George issued building permits for millions of dollars in new commercial and multi-family developments in February.

Last month the city issued permits for three new commercial developments worth a combined $24.87 million, in addition to permits for a pair of commercial renovations valued at $1.34 million.

The city also issued building permits for two new multi-family developments worth a combined $3.64 million last month.

So far this year, up to the end of February, the city has issued a total of 37 building permits worth an estimated $36.28 million.

By comparison, in the first two months of 2021 the city issued 58 permits worth $17.89 million. In January and February 2020, the city issued 55 permits worth a combined $9.51 million.

As of Feb. 28, the city had issued permits for four new single-family homes, three new duplexes and five new mobile homes, along with permits for a number of residential additions and alterations.

The city issued  467 building permits for projects worth a record $247.6 million in 2021.
