The Burnaby school district is forging ahead with plans for a “much closer to normal” school year starting next month even as it waits for updated information from the province next week.
Superintendent Gina Niccoli-Moen sent out a letter to parents Friday afternoon, reassuring them the district is working hard to ensure a “smooth and safe return to school.”
In June, Niccoli-Moen had told parents to expect kids to be in school in-person fulltime come September.
“While we continue to plan on that basis, we anticipate that the Government of B.C. will provide updated information next week,” she said in Friday’s letter. “Once we receive and review that information, we will reach out to you as quickly as possible in advance of school starting on Sept. 7.”
Regardless of the situation after Labour Day, however, Niccoli-Moen said the district is “deeply committed to continuing to prioritize health and safety.”
“We will strictly implement the protocols and guidelines provided and led by public health and the Ministry of Education,” she said.
