Active COVID-19 cases remain unchanged in Northern Health

Unvaccinated account for more than half of hospitalizations in B.C.

Active cases of COVID-19 in Northern Health are holding steady at 737, according to B.C. Centre for Disease Control numbers released Wednesday.

Likewise, hospitalizations remain unchanged at 18 with five of those patients in critical care, also unchanged, while new cases stood at 125, down from 276 reported on Tuesday.

No new deaths reported in both Northern Health and in B.C. as a whole.

Provincially, active cases stood at 29,967, up by 2,861 from Tuesday with 317 in hospital, up by 19, with 83 in intensive care, down by three.

From Dec. 28 to Jan. 3, people not fully vaccinated accounted for 51.4 per cent of hospitalizations, according to public health officials

Adjusted for age, hospitalizations over that same period stood at 25.9 per 100,000 population with people not vaccinated accounting for 19.6, partially vaccinated for 4.3 and fully vaccinated 1.8.
