Richmond’s McArthurGlen Designer Outlet is fundraising to help support those fighting wildfires across the country by hosting outdoor yoga sessions.

The outlet is hosting two outdoor Hatha-style yoga sessions on Aug. 2, and all proceeds from the event will be donated to support the ongoing B.C. wildfires.

Ally Day, marketing manager at McArthurGlen, said they are excited to be offering live events for the public, but also wanted to help with the ongoing wildfire situation.

"Along with the rest of B.C., we have been devastated by the continued wildfires across the province," said Day.

She added that all the proceeds will be donated specifically to the Red Cross fund supporting the Canadian wildfires.

Donations to the Canadian Red Cross are being matched by the Government of Canada until August 2 as well as by the Government of B.C. until December 31.

“Donations to the Canadian Red Cross will be used for immediate and ongoing relief efforts, long-term recovery, resiliency and preparedness for future events in British Columbia and impacted regions, including consequential events related to the fires,” read the Canadian Red Cross website.

Participants interested in the outdoor yoga events are encouraged to sign up due to limited spots.

People who would like to make donations, in general, to help with the cause can do so here.

Meanwhile, McArthurGlen is also welcoming artists for live music and painting during the long weekend.

Three guitarists will be performing from 1 to 3 p.m. and 14 local artists will be painting live from 2 to 5 p.m. every day in the outlet’s luxury piazza – near Michael Kors and Kate Spade.

While B.C. has moved forward into phase three of the COVID-19 restart plan, McArthurGlen is reminding guests of ongoing health and safety measures.

Social distancing during the events and while in stores is required, and masks may still be required in certain stores despite the Provincial Health Authority Restart Plan has said masks are no longer mandatory.
