A man suspected of carrying out a targeted shooting in Mackenzie is at large.

Police are on the lookout for Emil Laverne Spelman, 40, in relation to a July 8 incident at a home in the community of about 3,800 people 186 kilometres north of Prince George.

RCMP were first alerted when they were called to the community's hospital shortly before 2 p.m. where a man suffering from a gunshot wound showed up.

Spelman is suspected of pulling the trigger in what police described as a targeted attack and said the suspect and victim are known to each other.

Crown counsel has approved four charges against Spelman, including aggravated assault, but he remains on the lam.

Spelman also faces three counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking and a gun-related charge from a September 2020 incident.

Spelman is described as Caucasian, 178 cm (5’10) tall and weighing 84 kg (185 lbs) with brown hair and brown eyes

"If located, contact the RCMP. Under no circumstances should you confront or try and apprehend Emil Spelman. He is violent and could possibly be armed with a firearm," RCMP warned.

Anyone with information on where Spelman might be is contact the Mackenzie RCMP at (250) 997-3288.
