The Prince George Spruce Kings will take on the Wenatchee Wild in their first of two games at the B.C. Hockey League Showcase in Chilliwack.

The puck drops at 1 p.m. and  there will be over 100 scouts in attendance, representing all NHL teams and the majority of NCAA Division I programs.

In all 18 games will be played over five days at the Showcase. They can be viewed via hockeytv.com.

“This event acts as the kickoff to the season and gives our players their first chance to showcase themselves in front of NHL scouts and NCAA coaches,” said BCHL Deputy Commissioner Steven Cocker. “For many players, it’s their first opportunity to start discussions with schools and begin taking steps towards achieving their NCAA Division I goals.”

The Spruce Kings (3-1-0-0) are coming off a 5-2 victory over the Merritt Centennials on Saturday night at the Rolling Mix Concrete Arena.

The line of Nick Rhéaume, Simon Labelle, and Rowan Miller shined as they combined for six points.

Rhéaume now leads all Spruce Kings skaters with nine points in the team's first four games of the regular season, while Labelle and Miller both have five points apiece.

The Wild, meanwhile, are winless in two games, both of which were taken to overtime.

The Wild added a defenceman this offseason with a very familiar last name. 2004 born David Hejudk is the son of former Colorado Avalanche legend Milan Hejduk who is a Stanley Cup Champion.

The 17-year-old, who is already committed to Harvard University, stands at 6’1 200 pounds has suited up in both Wild games thus far in the 2021-22 season.
