Spruce Capital Seniors Centre is up and running and looking to expand its membership.

There’s a new chef preparing the most amazing and nutritious lunches and sweets for those who are so inclined.

There’s activities, games, special events and projects and most importantly, there’s the friendships and acceptance everyone needs in this world and it can all be found at 3701 Rainbow Drive.

“This is a busy, fun-filled place and it changes every day,” Shirley Morin, secretary of the Spruce Capital Seniors, said.

The seniors group offers a variety of activities including carpet bowling, fun crib – for beginners, a monthly crib tournament, tai chi with Tom Hinds, senior fit chair yoga with Myeracle Morin for those with limited mobility, canasta, bingo, TOPS (take off pounds sensibly) and there’s an invitation for bridge players to gather as well. All the programs are only $2 to drop in and for lunch there’s always two kinds of sandwiches and two kinds of soup on offer and the menu changes every day.

“The food is very, very good,” Lilian Massicotte, board director, said.

“And we have a very charismatic Bingo caller, Victoria, that makes it so much more fun,” William Bruens, administrator, said. “People come to Bingo just because of how entertaining she is.”

Special events are being planned and so on March 24 at 1 p.m. there’s a Magic Show presented by William the Conjurer.

“Every month we’re going to have a special event like that,” Bruens said. “What we’re trying to do here is provide a safe, healthy place for seniors to socialize and have fun.”

Spruce Capital Seniors Centre is open Monday to Thursday 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Membership fees per year are $25 each, $40 per couple and if you’re 80+ it’s only $10.
