School District No. 57 says no decision has been made to live-stream future SD57 school board meetings.

The previous Feb. 28 meeting was not live-streamed for the public to view in real time, but a recording of the meeting is now available online.

The district says recordings of the meetings will be available through the district’s website as the Board of Education is following Policy 7.

It requires all meetings of the board to be recorded and posted to the school district’s website for a period of 12 months, but does not specify live-streaming.

The school board began recording and live-streaming its meetings with the use of Zoom and YouTube throughout the pandemic, and approved Policy 7 in January 2021, after which it continued to live-stream the meetings until Feb. 28, 2023.

The Feb. 28 meeting drew significant public attention as the Prince George District Teachers Association president Daryl Beauregard announced he was denied from speaking at the meeting.

He has been critical of the board’s past response to public comments regarding teachers and SOGI (sexual orientation and gender identity) education in schools.

CUPE 3742 President Paula Bass attended the public comment period and she said she was also not given permission to formally address the board, as they both have done in past meetings.

The recording of that meeting is now available, however, the public comment period, which takes place following the conclusion of the board meeting, was not included in the video recording.

School board chair Rachael Weber has declined to comment on the matter.

The next school board meeting is scheduled to take place on April 25 at 4 p.m. at  the school district offices at 2100 Ferry Avenue.
