Scammer could be using FFGRD number to make fraudulent calls

Hang up if the caller asks for social insurance and credit card numbers
Phone scam

The Fraser-Fort George Regional is warning the public about telephone scams appearing to come from a regional district telephone number.

"The Regional District of Fraser-Fort George never initiates a request for social insurance number and credit card number by telephone. If an individual receives a telephone call asking for this information, it is a scam," FFGRD said in a statement issued midday Wednesday.

"If this happens, please ignore, hang up, don’t answer the text or email and report the incident to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre https://www.antifraudcentre-centreantifraude.ca.

"If you receive a call from the regional district and are unsure if it’s legitimate, please hang up and call our main number at 250-960-4400 and ask to be directed to the department related to the subject matter of the call."
