Passenger numbers at the Prince George Airport grew at a steady pace so far this year.

Compared to the same quarter last year, departing and arriving passenger traffic is up 44 per cent, Prince George Airport Authority said Thursday.

The month of January saw an increase of 59 per cent, February sat at 43 per cent and March ended at 33 per cent more passengers compared to the same months last year.

“We continue to see an uptick in people using our airport, although we aren’t close to pre-pandemic passenger levels. This is good, healthy growth.” said PGAA CEO Gordon Duke. “We continue to monitor flight loads, schedules and community feedback to bring suggestions forward to our air carrier partners.”

In the coming weeks, expansion of the combined services building will be complete, adding space for two aircraft rescue and firefighting vehicles. A new fire truck will be arriving in July and will be stored in this new climate-controlled facility.

Starting May 1, WestJet is increasing its direct service between Prince George and Calgary by two additional flights each week.

Come May 18, another pair of flights to Calgary will be added bringing the number to nine flights a week up from the current five.

As of July 1, Air Canada will be adding an extra flight to Vancouver bringing the daily service to four flights per day.
