The mother of a newborn baby found dead at a Saanich strip mall on Wednesday night has been located and is receiving medical care and support, Victoria police said Friday.
A passerby discovered the baby in a shopping bag on the sidewalk outside a Subway restaurant in the Blanshard Centre shopping plaza, in the 700-block of Bay Street, around 10 p.m. Wednesday.
An autopsy on the baby Friday morning concluded the newborn died of natural causes.
The circumstances are still under investigation by Victoria Police’s Major Crimes Unit and no further details were released.
