A motorist has become the subject of a driving while impaired investigation after colliding with an unmarked RCMP sport utility vehicle on Sunday.
A portion of Highway 16 at the intersection with 20th Avenue was cordoned off for much of the afternoon after police were called to the scene shortly after 2:30 p.m.
The police officer and a mental health nurse who occupied the RCMP vehicle at the time avoided serious injury, RCMP said. The vehicle was being used for the Car 60 program for mental health-related calls to police.
The driver of the second vehicle, a van, was issued a 24-hour driving prohibition for impairment by drug and was released without further process, pending the full results of the investigation.
The driver's identity was not provided.
