Canfor Pulp Products Inc. is curtailing production at two operations in response to the flood-related transportation disruptions in southern B.C.

With inventories nearing capacity, the company said production will be reduced at the Northwood pulp mill for at least two weeks and at the Taylor pulp mill for at least four weeks.

“As a result of the extreme rainfall and flooding that B.C. has been experiencing in recent weeks, the rail and highway networks have been substantially impacted," Canfor Pulp CEO Don Kayne said in a statement issued Thursday.

"Our employees have worked very hard to mitigate the impacts of the supply chain challenges and it has now become critical to reduce production to manage inventory levels and ensure employee safety until the transportation network returns to more normal operations.”

The step was taken the same week West Fraser Timber Co. Ltd. announced similar moves for two pulp mills in Quesnel and a plywood mill in Williams Lake.
