Active cases of COVID-19 in Northern Health remain on the downward trend.

The total stood at 87, according numbers released Wednesday by the B.C. Centre for Disease Control, a noticeable tumble from 117 on Monday.

Just four new cases were reported and there were no new deaths. Hospitalizations for the region stood at 10 with five in intensive care.

The seven-day moving average for new cases stood at 11.3 as of Tuesday, compared to 21.1 as of May 22.

As well, the region's positivity rate, or the percentage of tests that have yielded a positive result for COVID, crept towards another threshold. As of Tuesday, it stood at 5.8 per 100 tests, well down from a peak of 18 on April 4.

A rate above five per cent indicates a concerning level of transmission and puts strain on contact tracing efforts, according to health officials.

Since last reported, 3,124 new doses of vaccine have been administered in Northern Health, raising the accumulated total to 151,934, of which 140,887 were first doses and 11,047 were second doses.

The figures don't include doses administered by the First Nations Health Authority in the region.

Province-wide, active cases stood at 2,662, down 138 from Tuesday. However, four new deaths from the virus were reported,  for a total of 1,707 since the pandemic broke out.

As of Wednesday, 71.1 per cent of all adults in B.C. and 68 per cent of those 12 and older have received their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.

In total, 3,365,286 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna and AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in B.C., 208,145 of which are second doses.

"We have all worked hard to stay safe and we want to keep our positive momentum going," provincial health office Dr. Bonnie Henry and health minister Adrian Dix said in a joint statement.
