Northern Health was home to 33 active cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, according to the B.C. Centre for Disease Control, down four from the day before.

The number in hospital stood at six, down two, and one of them was in intensive care, down from three on Tuesday.

In a joint statement Wednesday, Dr. Bonnie Henry and deputy health minister Stephen Brown

said the number of cases across the province continues to be too high.

They said that thousands of residents are being forced to deal with the stress of self-isolating as a result of others not following proper COVID-19 safety precautions

They say everyone needs to follow the proper safety guidelines to ensure businesses and communities can remain open.

B.C. announced 91 new cases on Wednesday for a total of 8,395. Seven of those cases were in Northern Health for a total of 273 since the pandemic began in March.

There were 1,376 active cases, with 62 people in hospital and 18 in intensive care.
