Call them the Fab Five of Prince George.

The UNBC Timberwolves women's soccer team has received commitments from five members of the PGYSA under-18 Kodiaks team to join the T-wolves for the 2013 CIS season. Tianna Rossi, Tianna Puis, Ashley Anderson, Jessica Erickson and Fiona Raymond have all decided their future athletic and academic success will go through UNBC.

"We have some good chemistry together," said Rossi. "It'll be a good time to make new memories with the girls."

All of the women, except Anderson, began playing together in the under-12 PGYSA program. Anderson became the fifth member of the group last year. This summer the five newest members of the T-wolves soccer program will play together in the Prince George Women's Soccer Association on the U18 Kodiaks.

Rossi and Raymond will graduate from D.P. Todd secondary in June while Pius and Erickson are at PGSS and Anderson is a Westside Academy student.

The transition from high school to university soccer won't be too tough for the five women as they've played both with and against many of the current T-wolves during both the indoor and outdoor seasons in Prince George. Last Wednesday, the U18 Kodiaks dropped their final indoor match of the season to UNBC by a 2-1 margin.

Rossi said she's happy to stay close to home to pursue her post-secondary aspirations.

"It's a good opportunity to stay in town, work and be with friends," said the 17-year-old.

Her two sisters, twins Corey and Carissa, earned NCAA scholarships to play soccer with the University of Central Arkansas Bears in the Southland Conference.

After three winless seasons - the T-wolves failed to earn a win in their final two years of BCCAA/PACWEST play and posted an 0-9-3 record in their inaugural Canada West season in 2012 - Rossi said she's looking forward to the challenge of notching a win or two.

"I think we'll bring some competition for the veterans, which is really good within a team," she said.

Rossi said she'll probably take a general studies program during her freshman year while she gets used to university and figures out where her passions lie.

Meanwhile, Pius to pursue an education in biomedical science. She played on the PGSS senior girls soccer team since Grade 8 and was one of 11 players in B.C. to receive the 2012 triple-A Commissioner's MVP award. Pius also has an entry-level referee's certificate and has worked as a junior coach in both the indoor and outdoor leagues.

The UNBC women open their second CIS season on the road Sept. 6-8 when they visit the Fraser Valley Cascades and the Victoria Vikes. Their home opener is during the Sept. 13 weekend when the Alberta Pandas visit Prince George.
