Youth recognized at Hall of Fame celebration

Besides the eight athletes, coaches and builders who were inducted into the 10th Prince George Sports Hall of Fame Saturday night, 15 youth athletes received awards for their accomplishments in the last two years.

Besides the eight athletes, coaches and builders who were inducted into the 10th Prince George Sports Hall of Fame Saturday night, 15 youth athletes received awards for their accomplishments in the last two years.

The following is a list of athletes and their achievements.

The five-pin bowling team of Lezzyl Aquino, Kassidy Johnson, Paige Meise and Megan Reimer were 2013 provincial and national champions in the junior girls division.

Haley Black is a swimmer and one of two B.C. athletes on the junior national team. She won two bronze medals (100-metre butterfly and 100m backstroke) at the 2013 Canada Summer Games, as well as two gold, one silver and three bronze at the 2012 Canadian age group championships.

Emily Dickson is a biathlete originally from Burns Lake who now lives and trains in Prince George. She won four medals at the 2014 Canadian Biathlon Championships in March and also won gold in the junior girls 10-kilometre race at the 2014 Canadian Cross-Country Ski championships.

She represented Prince George's Caledonia Nordic Ski Club twice at the 2014 and 2013 world youth biathlon championships. In 2014, she finished 20th in the pursuit race.

At the 2013 world youth championships where she finished 75th and 54th in her races.

Jordan Foot is a volleyball player who is a rookie middle blocker/outside hitter for the Thompson RIvers University WolfPack. He was named an all-star at the 2013 U-18 national championship tournament, where he helped B.C. to a bronze medal.

Kayla Gordon is a basketball player who is a three-time provincial silver medallist with the Cedars Christian School Eagles and competed in the B.C. high school all-star game in 2013. She helped Team B.C. to bronze at the U-17 nationals in 2012. She's now playing on a scholarship at Trinity Western University in Langley.

Justin Hampole is a figure skater who made Team B.C. for the Skate Canada Challenge, held in January in Regina. He accomplished it as a 12-year-old competing in a U-16 division. He's the first Prince George figure skater in more than a decade to compete in a national championship.

Carolina Hiller is a speed skater who won gold in the junior B 1,500-metre race at the Canadian Age Class Short Track Speed Skating championships in March in Prince George. She made her second appearance at the junior national short track championships in January in Montreal, where she finished 25th.

She had a handful of top-30 finishes at her first nationals last season, even though she was a 15-year-old competing against mostly 17- to 19-year-olds.

Keiran Leboe is a track and field athlete who is the B.C. hammer throw champion in his age group and was third in discus, javelin, and shot put. He was a member of Team B.C. for the 2013 Legion Youth national championships, where he placed fifth in hammer throw.

Montell Lindgren is a basketball player who was selected for the B.C. high school all-star game as a member of the Duchess Park Condors. He helped Team B.C. to a bronze medal as the 17-and-under men's national championship in 2012.

Brad Morrison is forward with the Prince George Cougars of the Western Hockey League who just completed his rookie season. He was named to Team Pacific for the 2014 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge and he helped Team B.C. to a gold medal at the U-16 Western Canada Challenge Cup in 2012.

Spencer Schouwenburg is an archer and the youngest member of the Silvertip Archers to score a perfect 300, which he accomplished in January. He became just the eighth in club history to achieve a perfect score. He's also a B.C. and Canadian record-holder in his age group.

Kristen Yawney is a judoist who has made multiple junior national championship appearances with Team B.C. She won silver medals in 2012 and 2011.
